The Johnnynine Weblog - Notepad++ or Notepad2
A weblog by Johnny Hughes

Wow, I’m caught between them.  I just love the multiple tab interface and being able to split windows in Notepad++. But to close a tab you have to go up and click an item in the left hand part of the toolbar, as opposed to the de-facto standard of having the tab close button to the right of the tabs.  So half the time I end up closing the whole app down on accident. The non-standard search and replace window also throws me sometimes.

Notepad2 is definitely a prettier application with most of the same functionality, just packaged a little bit better.  Unfortunately there are no tabs and no way to split the a window.

I suppose I’ll just have to live with Notepad++ for now.  It’s a great application, it just needs a little gui work.

I was notepad2 fan but now I use notepad++ since notepad++ improuved its GUI.

For me notepad++ is superior to notepad2 greatly.

There's also a new one on the block called Whirlpad or Whipad pr something like that which looks promising.

With notepad++ you can add the X to each tab. it's in the settings. (Tab bar - enable close button on each tab). Enjoy :)

Like weez, Notepad++ is highly customizeable. I would say I'm caught between PSPad and Notepad++ PSPad has a few other features like GUID, Hash check but the Find/Replace dialogs are pretty much the same (although I like the one from Notepad++ much better than anything else). Indeed, it well suits my programming needs!

If you think it is missing an obvious feature, you should probably check the settings first! Cheers!!
